Refugee Status ‘No Ticket to First World’: Morrison

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison has warned that the right to resettlement is “not a ticket to a better life in a first world country”

Speaking on the 2GB Ray Hadley Program on Monday, Mr Morrison said he had been in Cambodia and had been furthering regional discussions to find places where people may be resettled in the region.

“Resettlement isn’t a ticket to a better quality life in a first world country. It is about getting you to a country where you are safe, where you are free from persecution.

“I just don’t buy into this argument which says that only first world countries are able to participate in resettlement around the world. It is about freedom from persecution, not a ticket to a first world economy,” Mr Morrison said.
